Post-workout recovery is an important step in being healthy and fit. For some great tips on recovering from an intense workout, please read on.

Stretch
This is an important step that people forget to do. If you don't stretch, the muscles you just worked will get tight and you will end up damaging yourself more. One way to stretch your muscles while also massaging your muscles is to use a foam roller.

Eat a Nutrient Packed Meal
In order to replenish your energy, you will want to eat a balanced meal that includes protein, a healthy fat, and healthy starches. If you don't like to eat a big meal after working out, protein smoothies are a great option.

Drink Lots of Water
This is probably an obvious tip but it is very important to drink at least 11 8-ounce glasses a day. During your workout, you will also want to drink every 15-20 minutes.

Ice/Heat
To treat swelling and pain, you should use an ice pack or take a cold bath. If your muscles are feeling stiff, you should use a heat pack or take a warm bath instead. This will help loosen up your muscles.

Rest
It is important to allow yourself at least one rest day in between workouts. However, if you feel like you need more recovery in between, then take it! It is better to recover and rest your body then try to push it too much because you can seriously injure yourself.
